Movement
In this project I will be studying movement and the way in which different photographers incorporate this into their work as well as trying to create my own photographs in response. The artists who I will be looking at are Alexey Titarenko, Matthew Pillsbury and Frank Machalowski. My project title originates form my interest in movement and the techniques used to capture it as by just prolonging exposure time you can create an effect that cannot be made artificially through Photoshop.
Each of the artists represents movement in a different way. Alexey Titarenko shows the movement of crowds of people in the streets of Russia. All his work is in black and white and gives off a heavy almost creepy sense. Similar to Alexey Titarenko and Frank Machalowski, a lot of Matthew Pillsbury’s photography shows crowds of people in cities but also other places and is not just limited to people. Pillsbury has a variety of black and white and colour photographs. Frank Machalowski’s work is very similar to Alexey Titarenko’s as they both show movements in cities and are in black and white. The selection of references I have researched have given me a wide range of subject matter to explore, allowing me to experiment taking pictures in different locations and of different subjects.
I intend to visit places that will each give me a different viewpoint. Visits to busy areas will allow me to take photographs similar to my artist reference. I will visit places which have different types of movement such as at a funfair as well as collecting photographs which show people to give my work variety.
